The A Scar Free Me resident experts are here to offer support and keep you up to speed on treatment options for acne and acne scars. Today we have big news! The FDA has approved the first ever dermal filler for the treatment of atrophic scars, such as acne scars. Through a clinical study, the dermal filler Bellafill® has been proven safe and effective for treating acne scars.

Bellafill® is comprised of purified collagen and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, which support the body’s natural collagen production. The filler is injected below the depression in the skin to lift and smooth the scar to the level of the surrounding skin.

For the 40-50 million Americans who have acne at any one time1—and up to 95 percent of whom may experience some degree of scarring2—this new treatment option can offer a fresh start. As a physician, there’s no greater joy than providing a new treatment choice that can help patients say goodbye to the emotional and physical aftermath of acne.
